Renard hoping to his team pull off a semi-final upset

Zambia will have it all to do when they take on Ghana in their 2012 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final on Wednesday evening. The Black Stars head into the midweek encounter as hot favourites to progress to the final, having already dispatched Botswana, Mali and Tunisia on their way to the last four. Zambia, meanwhile, enjoyed an unbeaten run in Group A, which included victories over co-hosts Equatorial Guinea and pre-tournament favourites Senegal, while they booked their place in the semis with a convincing 3-0 win over Sudan in the last eight. Ghana, though, have a truckload of experience on their side, with the continental giants having clinched the AFCON title on four separate occasions, leaving them second in the all-time winners list behind Egypt. However, Chipolopolo appear to have tossed aside the script at this year's showpiece and, according to coach Herve Renard, will head into Wednesday's clash without any fear. "I experienced the semi-final as an assistant with Ghana in 2008. When you play at the semis, your target is to reach the final, and we are going to do that," he told the official CAF website. Both teams are boasting a full contingent of players to choose from, meaning the respective coaches are each likely to field their strongest possible starting XI. For Zambia, inspirational skipper and recently promoted military officer Christopher Katongo will once more lead the side, while Ghana will be relying on their own captain John Mensah at the back.
